Burkina Faso’s military government has said that its security and intelligence services foiled a coup attempt on Tuesday.
The statement, which was read out on the nation’s television station, alleged that some officers and others had planned to destabilize the country and throw it to chaos.
It however disclosed that the authorities had made some arrests but did not give specific details
It has been just less than a year since the interim president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, seized power in a second coup of 2022 as it grapples with an Islamist insurgency, and there have been recent reports of discontent within the military.
There had been rumors of a brewing mutiny in the country, which led to hundreds of people taking to the streets of the capital, Ouagadougou, to show support for the Junta.
